CME의 재미있는 주문 – With Protection

모증권사 프로젝트에 일하는 후배가 연락을 했습니다. CME에서 제공하는 Order Type에 대해 설명을 해달라고 합니다. Market Order, Stop Limit Order는 많이 보던 것이라 문제가 되지 않았는데 with protection이라는 말이 들어간 주문유형이 문제였습니다. Globex Platform을 가동하면서 새로 추가된 주문입니다.

Market with Protection

Market orders at CME Group are implemented using a “Market with Protection” approach. Unlike a conventional Market order, where customers are at risk of having their orders filled at extreme prices, Market with Protection orders are filled within a predefined range of prices (the protected range). The protected range is typically the current best bid or offer, plus or minus 50 percent of the product’s No Bust Range. If the entire order cannot be filled within the protected range, the unfilled quantity remains on the book as a Limit order at the limit of the protected range.

Stop with Protection

Stop orders at CME Group are implemented using a “Stop with Protection” approach. Unlike a conventional Stop order, where customers are at risk of having their orders filled at extreme prices, Stop with Protection orders are filled within a predefined range of prices (the protected range). A Stop with Protection order is triggered when the designated price is traded on the market. The order then enters the order book as a Limit order with the limit price equal to the trigger price, plus or minus the predefined protected range. The protected range is typically the trigger price, plus or minus 50 percent of the No Bust Range for that product. The order is executed at all price levels between the trigger and limit price. If the order is not completely filled, the remaining quantity rests in the market at the limit price. A buy Stop order must have a trigger price greater than the last traded price for the instrument. A sell Stop order must have a trigger price lower than the last traded price.

그냥 문맥상으로 보면 투자자가 시장가격이 급변하면서 얻을 수 있는 손해를 방지하기 위한 장치라는 의미로 ‘with Protection’을 도입한 듯 합니다. 그러면 문제는 No-Bust Range라는 들어보지 못한 단어때문입니다.

Trade Bust means Cancellation of a trade on an electronic exchange because the price, due to an error, was outside of normal ranges. 

Trade Bust가 특정한 조건에서 체결취소니까 No-Bust Range는 체결취소가 되지 않도록 하는 범위라는 뜻이겠죠?(^^) 다시 No Bust Range를 찾아보니 영어로 이런 의미를 가지고 있습니다.

No-Bust Range: A range of prices used in determining if a potential error trade should be busted.? The range is based on the true market price for the contract immediately before the error trade occurred,? as determined by considering all relevant information, including the last trade price on the CME Globex platform, a better bid or offer price, a more recent price in a different contract month, the price of the same or a related contract established in open outcry trading and the prices of related contracts trading in other markets (e.g., cash FX and SGX Eurodollars). A trade may not be busted if it falls within the No Bust Range for that contract. No Bust Ranges vary by product. 

가격변도의 상하제한이 없는 외국거래소에서 가격이 급변할 때 시장가주문을 낸 투자자는 손해를 볼 확률이 많습니다. 무조건 시장가주문이라고 하여 주문접수시점의 시장가로 체결할 경우 주문을 낸 시점과 주문을 받은 시점의 차이로 인해 손해볼 가능이 있어서 ‘With Protection’이라는 제도를 두었습니다.

이런 경우가 있었습니다.

일본 UBS 증권은 게임업체 캡콤의 회사채 3천만엔어치를 매입하려다 실수로 3조엔어치를 주문했다고 25일 BBC 뉴스 인터넷판이 보도했다.

일본 UBS 증권은 이 실수가 직원이 키보드에 숫자를 잘못 눌러 발생한 소위 ’팻 핑거(fat finger)’ 현상 때문이 아니라 컴퓨터상의 오류에서 비롯한 것이었다고 해명했다. 

No-Bust Range라는 규정을 둔 이유는 이와 같이 트레이더의 실수로 주문이 잘못 입력되어 트레이더 및 시장참여자에게 미칠 영향을 최소화하기 위함이 아닐까 합니다. 이와 관련하여 Error Trade에 대하여 FIA(Futures Industry Association)에서 Exchange Error Trade Procedures. Recommendations for Best Practices에 다음과 같은 내용이 있습니다.

1. Price Limits.? To reduce the number of erroneous trades that could be effected through an electronic trading system, exchanges should consider implementing price limits or similar controls, which would reject, or at a minimum require a market participant to reconfirm, any order outside such limits prior to execution.

2. Defined No-Bust Range.? To assure that only erroneous trades that may significantly and adversely affect other market participants are subject to cancellation, exchanges should adopt a “no-bust range” within which price range trades may not be subject to cancellation even if executed in error.

3. ? Timing for Resolution.? To assure the prompt resolution of requests to cancel erroneous trades, exchanges should establish narrow time frames within which (1) a party may request that a trade be cancelled, and (2) the exchange determines whether to cancel the trade or take other appropriate action.

4.? Notice to the Market.? To assure that market participants are aware that an erroneous trade may be cancelled, exchanges should implement procedures to provide prompt notice to the marketplace of both a request to cancel a trade and the exchange’s decision with respect to such request.

5. ? Effect on Other Orders.? To avoid uncertainty among market participants, exchanges should adopt policies that identify the types of other transactions that will be cancelled if an erroneous trade is cancelled, i.e., contingency orders and stop orders executed as a result of the erroneous trade.

6. ? Dispute Resolution Forums.? To assure market participants that incur losses as a result of erroneous trade a means of recovering damages, exchange dispute resolution forums should recognize the right of such participants to make a claim against the participant responsible for the erroneous trade.
 

KRX에선 이런 경우가 있었습니다.

어닝 서프라이즈’ 실적을 발표하면서 상승세를 이어가고 있던 LG화학 주가가 장중 순간적으로 하한가로 추락했다. 현대증권 창구를 통한 주문실수 때문으로 풀이된다. 17일 증권 업계에 따르면 코스피시장에서 오전 9시24분경 현대증권 창구를 통해 LG화학 주식 7만여주 규모의 하한가 매도 매물이 나왔다.

순간적으로 주가는 전거래일 대비 14.80%(2만500원) 내린 11만8000원까지 떨어졌고, 약 20초간 주문이 철회되지 않으면서 일부 물량이 거래됐다.한 증권사 관계자는 “주문 실수로 보이며 상세한 내용은 확인하고 있는 중”이라고 말했다.  

이에 대해 금감원은 2007년 주문착오방지를 위한 모범규준을 만들었지만 대상이 KRX가 아니라 증권사입니다.
KRX가 CME와 같은 제도를 도입할 필요가 있지 않을까 합니다.
