한동안 여의도에서 ‘선진기법’이라는 이름으로 이익을 챙겼던 회사가 있습니다. Zomojo입니다. DMA 열품이 여의도에 불어닥칠 때 인구에 회자했던 회사가 있습니다. Zeptonics입니다. 두 회사의 이름이 같이 등장했던 사건이 지난 해말 있었습니다.
이후 Zeptonics의 제품은 시장에서 사라졌습니다. ZeptoMux는 계속 영업을 한다고 하여 몇 번 연락을 해보았지만 답장이 없었습니다. 2013년 여름에는 Zomojo가 Zeptonics에 승소하였던 저작권을 이용하여 제품화한다는 소문이 돌았습니다. 이 때쯤 해외 언론에 나왔던 제품이 있습니다.

제품을 문의해보면서 Zomojo와 관계가 있는지 알아보았지만 확인은 할 수 없었습니다. 어떻게 Low Latency를 구현하였는지 궁금해서 살펴보니까 스위치의 기능을 아주 단순화한 것이 핵심이었습니다. 시세데이타분배를 위한 스위치로는 최상이 아닐까 생각합니다.
국내 DMA경쟁도 시들해지고 미국이나 유럽의 경쟁도 잦아들면서 기억속에서 잊혀졌습니다. 그런데 어제부터 Zomojo와 관련한 기사들이 보이기 시작합니다.

그러면 ExaNIC X4라는 제품을 간단히 보도록 하죠. 문서상으로는 Chelsio나 Solaflare와 비교하여 어떤 장점이 있는지 모르겠더군요. 개발자를 위한 API를 소개한 부분을 보면서 다른 회사들의 Socket Acceleration 부분은 진행중입니다.
Easy-to-USE API
In addition to a standard Linux driver, intuitive software interfaces are available for low-latency communication. a library called ‘libexanic’ provides direct low-level access to the exanIc hardware and includes simple functions for sending and receiving ethernet frames. Accelerated tcP/IP and udP/IP functionality is provided by a userspace IP library built on top of libexanic. for legacy software that cannot easily be ported to these interfaces, a socket acceleration library is also currently under development
ExaNIC X4 보다는 ExaLink 50가 더 유용해보입니다. Zeptonics의 ZeptoLink와 거의 같은 제품으로 보입니다.
최근에 나온 제품으로 Low Latency환경을 구축한다면 시세용 스위치는 ExaLink나 Xcelo의 제품, 주문은 ZeptoMux를 채택하는 것이 최선이라고 생각합니다. 그렇다고 Best Of Best는 불가능합니다. 다 아시는 ‘회원 시스템 접속 등에 관한 기준’ 때문입니다.
Zomojo가 하드웨어 비즈니스를 한다는 사실을 어떻게 바라볼까요? 개인적으로 Low Latency만을 전략으로 하는 HFT는 수익을 낼 수 없는 환경임을 보여준다고 생각합니다. 변화와 다양화가 필요합니다.
(덧붙임) ExaNIC X4가 STAC와 함께 성능측정을 한다고 하네요. 결과가 나오면 Chelsio와 Solarflare에 비해 어떤 성능일지 알 수 있을 듯 합니다.
The ExaNIC X4 will start shipping in November. The company plans to have independent validation of its latency claims from the leading research and testing tools provider, Securities Technology Analysis Center (STAC®).
